Favorite Things - Week of Mar 20th
So I started the year off strong with posting these for about the first three weeks, have some notes for the next two weeks and that is about as long as it lasted ha. But we are home resting after our trip to South America and actually quarantining as a result of positive COVID tests earlier this week so taking advantage of the downtime to catch up some.
We got back from our Chile / Argentina trip around lunchtime on Tuesday this week so have spent most of the week recuperating and just being grateful for having the opportunity to go on such an amazing trip. Also we did bring covid home with us… fortunately our symptoms have been really mild and we are almost done with the quarantine period. It has given me some time to put together a separate post that includes all the details of our itinerary, favorite things, pictures etc.
Traveling internationally and disconnecting for an extended period of time (just over two weeks in this case) always reminds me of how important fully experiencing the life we have is, living in the moment and exploring and how that makes me feel so alive and how much the day to day stresses of our corporate jobs sometimes rob us of that. Coming back to work after a big trip like that always helps me to reset and serves as a great reminder to not take things too seriously and not to stress too much over things. Now time will tell how long that reminder lasts but for now and this past week it felt nice.
With all of the travel talk I also loved these two travel articles; the 55 Most Beautiful Places in the world to travel and 34 most remote yet luxurious getaways. Explora where we stayed in Torres Del Paine is actually on that second list!
All We Can Save, a book I was reading while we were traveling on Climate Change. While Climate Change is a topic that I am passionate about, in all honestly I kind of hate reading about it because I find it so depressing. This book while very factual I found extremely interesting as it provides ideas of solutions that I hadn’t thought or read about before and is more empowering and motivating vs just being sad. Would highly recommend this read to everyone!
Coming back to Spring in NC and post the change to daylight savings time has been awfully nice, it is my favorite time of year to be in North Carolina so has been really nice to be welcomed home by spring :) I’ve been trying to get outside for a walk and just soak up this season everyday since we have been back.
6. Copper Indian takeout back in Charlotte, everytime we travel I always crave our favorite Indian restaurant to take out as soon as we get back!
7. With the spring weather comes a spring closet refresh, several of my favorite bloggers have posted some good spring picks recently. Danielle Moss did a classic spring styles post and Simply Real Health also did a good one! Here are a few more of my favorites that I’ve been eyeing
Ayr the Deep End striped button down - I’ve been eyeing this one for awhile considering it as a birthday treat to myself or asking for it as a gift.
Faherty Isha Dress - I purchased this one right before our trip and wore in wine country and imagine it will get plenty more wear through spring and summer this year.
Jenni Kayne Seersucker Summer Dress - love this one but as with most of her items, I can’t bring myself to spend that much on this one knowing I will only wear it a handful of times.
8. In case we hadn’t cut our travel edge enough while quarantining we caught up on some A plus K episodes and we especially enjoyed their recent channel islands episode. This is a national park that wasn’t really even on our radar but now is, looks like such a beautiful and quiet place to add to the wish list!
9. Booking a flight to go visit my best friend from high school at the end of April! It has somehow been over two years since we have last gotten together, crazy - partly because of the pandemic and then our plans to get together were messed up after Matt’s accidently but can’t believe it has been so long so super excited to spend a weekend with them soon.
10. Starting to think about what is next… for the month to 6 weeks leading up to our trip I was so focused on my new job, some family health concerns we had going on and preparing for the trip because traveling to Chile and Argentina in the current COVID environment requires a lot of prep work much more than we have ever experienced before. Oh and we were also trying to get up to hike in the mountains of NC as much as possible prior to the trip. But because of all of that, we pretty much put everything else for the year on hold. Now that we back we are gradually starting to think and talk more about what is next which includes some big topics for us like a move to Colorado, the possibility of a new car, trying to see and visit as much as possible with friends and family in NC prior to the move etc. So more to come on all of those topics.
