Coffee with younger self

I had coffee with my younger self last week and here's how it went…

Her first response was “nice - you look active, healthy and happy” and I reassured her that yes we are active, healthy and really happy.

I told her over the years some things have stayed the same - we still love spending time with family and being at Lake Lure, we still love Jesus, Meck and NC in the spring.  We still love being outdoors and traveling.

But other things have changed - mostly for the good.  We are kinda crunchy now, we make our own bread, we get organic vegetables from a local farm, we drink Matcha in the mornings, we would get a chicken coop but we travel too often, we don’t do nearly as much alcohol as we used to, we just feel so much better without it and keeping up with a toddler we need all the energy we can get.

Yes we have a toddler!  She is the most beautiful and amazing little person.  We aren’t in the fashion industry anymore honey, we literally work in the automotive tool industry… wait what?!  Yes you heard that right - sounds crazy and far off from where we started but it has allowed us to have better work life balance, a more flexible schedule, the ability to travel and explore the world more and live in Colorado for 2.5 years.  Yep we did that and it was incredible!!  Honestly fashion isn’t even top of mind anymore, we have found that we are more comfortable in our fav jeans and sweater or hiking leggings and sweatshirt and we feel more like our true selves that way.  Our career has for the most part been good but is the one area of life we are still trying to figure out if we have it right and considering the possibility of still making a change.

I also told her that yes, I knew what she really wanted to know…. Yes we do eventually get the dog - the black lab - you name her after a train song hehe - and she is the absolute best - she literally changes the course of your life for the better in ways you can’t even imagine - I won't go into the details because that will spoil some of the fun.

The best advice I can give - is to stay true to who you are, trust your gut instinct it is usually right.  Have fun on the girls nights and NY market trips now because that will change (turns out you like hiking and quality time at home with loved ones more anyways). Don’t get hung up on the stupid boys the right one does come along, organically and perfectly so everything really does happen for a reason.  And when it does you know it is right, it just works, he treats you exactly like how the others should have, it is easy and natural and you don’t question anything.  Keep trusting in God, whenever you are struggling with something pray on it and journal on it and you will sort it out.
